Warshe. A journey through Jewish Warsaw

On the eve of the WW2 Warsaw was a vibrant center of Jewish life and culture. It was the world second largest Jewish community after New York, home to almost 370 000 Jews, one third of city’s population. This world was almost completely annihilated during the Holocaust, with most of the community murdered by Germans in the gas chambers of Treblinka, few hours away from Warsaw. But the Jewish life, though much ruined, has managed to survive. Join us on an amazing journey of discovering the richness of prewar life, horrors of the Holocaust and the energy of contemporary Jewish life, still in process of reshaping itself.

Jewish Warsaw private tour

During this tour I will show you places where Jews, who before WWII made 30% of the whole population of Warsaw, lived and perished during the holocaust. You can still see preserved remnants of former ghetto walls, installation showing the bridge connecting small and big ghetto, monuments to Warsaw ghetto heroes, Umschlagplatz, from which Warsaw Jews were deported to Treblinka extermination camp in 1942, still functioning Jewish cemetery and Nozyk synagogue, the only one which survived the war. We shall also see Jewish Historical Institute, prewar Judaistic Library, and recently opened Museum of the History of Polish Jews, called Polin. After the tour with me you can explore the exhibition on your own or taking audioguide (10$).
